Her 'Portals' and similar works create an air of mystery and contemplation. Ms. Gwaltney has studios in Potomac, MD and Calistoga, CA where she creates her commissioned artwork.

The project called for a lighted piece in a cleanly designed, modern elevator lobby of a publishing company. It needed an interesting visual element, and there was only one wall segment of any size.

The company uses font names for their conference rooms, so it made sense to use a familiar, and beautiful, graphic in this space. It also happens that the company produces two publications, and this is the implied “and” that joins them.
